Pilates – STEPHANIE HANCOX

Pilates

Clinical Pilates is a form of Pilates developed with a strong focus on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and individual body mechanics. Unlike traditional gym-based Pilates or high-intensity workout classes, Clinical Pilates is rooted in physiotherapy principles and is often taught by qualified instructors with expertise in anatomy and injury management. This form of Pilates emphasizes precision, control, and gradual progression to support alignment, core stability, flexibility, and muscular balance.

In group Reformer and Mat Classes, Clinical Pilates instructors modify exercises to accommodate each participant’s needs, focusing on alignment and specific muscle activation rather than speed or intensity. Reformer classes use spring-loaded machines to add controlled resistance, promoting stability and strength, while Mat classes rely on body weight and gravity. Unlike fast-paced gym-style classes, Clinical Pilates sessions are typically slower, more mindful, and encourage body awareness, making them ideal for people recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or simply wanting a safe, balanced workout.

Stephanie has been practicing clinical style pilates since 1992! And has developed her own unique style of group reformer and Mat classes, that not only have a holistic approach to movement and exercise but also a focus on good form, posture and alignment.
